As the cradle of the world’s oldest cultures, Africa has an incredible heritage, most of which is undoubtedly yet to be discovered. Throughout the continent, scientists are working flat out on some remarkable sites to uncover their secrets, whether in the form of mummies, cave paintings or intriguing stelae. To do this, they are increasingly making use of some surprising techniques, such as chemistry, with the aim of discovering and above all protecting this inestimable heritage.
