Photo report
Jeanne Crassous is the laureate of the CNRS silver medal 2023
Director of Research at the Institute of Chemical Sciences in Rennes, her work focuses on enantiomers, pairs of molecules made up of the same atoms, but whose 3D structure is a mirror image of each other. This phenomenon is known as chirality.
These chiral helix-shaped molecules, known as "helicenes", emit circularly polarized light. Polarized luminescence has a number of applications, including optical coding (such as watermarks), 3D displays, and the development of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs).

CNRS Images,
Our work is guided by the way scientists question the world around them and we translate their research into images to help people to understand the world better and to awaken their curiosity and wonderment.
