Summary

In this tenth chapter of the DVD "Recoveries" featuring 18 short films on illness, care and the care-caregiver relationship, David Le Breton, anthropologist, talks about the care of serious and chronic diseases and Christiane Quinio, general practitioner and president of the Resesdiab association (Ile-de-France care network for diabetics), shows more particularly the cooperation that exists between patients and carers within this network.
David Le Breton explains the importance of engaging the patient in the process of their own healing, a true therapeutic alliance, thus making treatments more effective.
Christiane Quinio explains the important role of the general practitioner, who provides the guarantee that the information given is based on scientific sources but who is also responsible for listening to the patient to establish a trusting relationship.
Finally, during a group workshop of this association, Christiane Quinio and the therapeutic team discuss with the participants the contribution of these group sessions and the difficulties in following the advice given.
