La mise en valeur et la restauration de l'ensemble du château de Vincennes a conduit à l'ouverture d'une quinzaine de fouilles préventives. En 2004 une tranchée de 200 m sur 6 m a été fouillée, elle passe sur l'aile ouest du manoir royal médiéval situé à gauche de la tranchée et qui avait été fouillé entre 1992 et 1996.
