Charles Penel, who was later to become deputy director of the Palais de la découverte in Paris, shares some of his memories. In 1937, at the age of ten, he visited the Palais on the occasion of its inauguration. He describes with feeling this visit to one of the first great science museums: "It was as if all the professors in the world had come together to show us their most precious treasures."
