Vitesse des ondes sismiques à l'intérieur de la Terre. Les zones orangées indiquent une vitesse lente tandis que les zones bleues indiquent une vitesse rapide. Ces variations de vitesse nous renseignent sur la température et la nature des roches à l'intérieur de la Terre. La sphère blanche au centre du globe représente le noyau terrestre. Cette image a été réalisée dans le cadre du projet ANR Global S-wave imaging of the Earth mantle (SEISGLOB), qui étudie le manteau terrestre en utilisant les ondes sismiques pour "scanner" le cœur de la Terre.
