The S3 laboratory being assembled at SPIRAL 2
The S3 (Super Separator Spectrometer) laboratory being assembled at SPIRAL 2 (2nd generation linear radioactive ion production system), installed at the Large National Heavy Ion Accelerator (GANIL) in Caen. This lab is dedicated to the study of neutron deficient super-heavy nuclei, non-existent on Earth, produced by means of stable, very high intensity ion beams delivered by the SPIRAL 2 superconductive linear accelerator (LINAC). Located more than 9 m underground, SPIRAL 2 is dedicated to nuclear physics and develops applications for different areas of activity including nuclear medicine, energy, aerospace etc.
