Les "Chaetoceros" ont la particularité de former des colonies de diatomées s'attachant par les soies (extensions de silice). Spécimen issu de la carotte MD03-2601 localisée à 66°S et 138.5° sur le plateau continental antarctique au large de la Terre Adélie.
