Modélisation de réactions de fusion et de fission nucléaires. La fission nucléaire est un phénomène de division d'un noyau atomique lourd (uranium, plutonium) en deux ou plusieurs noyaux légers, libérant une énergie considérable. Inversement, la fusion nucléaire est une réaction nucléaire résultant d'une collision entre deux noyaux atomiques légers suivie d'un réarrangement des particules (neutrons et protons) qui les constituent, entraînant un dégagement important d'énergie.
